As a career counselor, you need to create great resumes fast. After all, the more quickly you help each client, the more people you can serve. But of course, you never want to sacrifice quality.

As a Top-Ranked Resume Writer, I have reviewed and revamped thousands of resumes for clients. I can assure you that my two top resumes tips, below, make a big impact–fast.

1) Ditch the Modesty

Top resumes emphasize the best of what the job seeker has accomplished, citing specific quantifiable improvements with high numbers. Resume bullets should include terms like:

Established relations with up to ## new clients each quarter….

Successfully generated more than $$$ in yearly revenue…

Implemented xyz platforms which led to nearly a %% improvement in productivity….

2) Use the SPAR Framework

Situation, Problem, Accomplishment, Result

You’re creating a marketing tool to sell your clients’ expertise to employers, so it should contain “$, % and #” data to illustrate their capabilities. Instead of wasting valuable real estate on soft skills and generic tasks, infuse content with SPAR-driven bullets so that employers can see what they’re truly capable of.

Here’s an example.

Before the SPAR framework:

  • Screened, interviewed, hired and trained staff for all company positions.

After the SPAR framework:

  • As Senior Marketing Manager of [Fortune 500 company], oversaw recruitment and screening of more than 350 applicants each year which led to a greater than 45% increase in staff retention.

How did we incorporate the SPAR framework?

Situation
The sentence sets the stage for the reader. How large was the company? How pressing was the problem that was solved?
Ex: As Senior Marketing Manager of Fortune 500 company location….

Problem
What specific problem was being addressed?
Ex: Worked to revamp outdated onboarding practices….

Accomplishment
What were the measurable achievements that resulted? Should ideally include $, # or % figures.
Ex: …for more than 350 applicants each year….

Results
How did this impact the company’s bottom line or big picture performance?
Ex: …which led to a greater than 45% increase in staff retention.

If you can include one or two of these statements for each role that a client has held, they will see tangible results. The best news is: Our RSWorks portal is already optimized to create these kinds of resume bullets. Learn more here!
